Don’t let perfectionism stand in the way of your social media success!

Hello you gorgeous bunch! Thanks for reading the first ever Clewer Communications blog, we’re sorry it’s taken us so long. The topic of our first blog is: Embracing imperfection, which is actually super fitting for our first ever blog as the reason it's taken us so long to write this damn blog is wondering whether it’ll be good enough (you guys will be the judge of that).

So, let’s talk about the pressures of social media perfection! Are you guilty of spending hours agonising over the perfect Instagram caption or meticulously editing every detail of your LinkedIn post? Or even worse, are there hundreds of video outtakes on your phone of that video you never ended up posting out of fear of low engagement or people judging you? Firstly, you’re not alone, this is something we hear often, and if were being completely honest, we are sometimes guilty of this too, chasing perfection!

We’ve written this blog and chosen this exact topic to remind you that imperfection is not only okay - it's downright essential in the world of social media. Here’s why:

1. Authenticity is key: Let's face it - nobody's life is as picture-perfect as it appears on social media. And guess what? Your audience knows it too! Instead of striving for unattainable perfection, focus on authenticity. Share the real, raw, unfiltered moments that make your brand unique. Whether it's behind-the-scenes glimpses of your team in action or candid snapshots of everyday life, authenticity is what fosters genuine connections with your audience.

2. Consistency trumps perfection: Ever heard the phrase "done is better than perfect"? It couldn't be truer in the world of social media. While it's tempting to endlessly tweak and refine your content in pursuit of perfection, the truth is that consistency matters more than flawlessness. Stick to a regular posting schedule and focus on delivering value to your audience. Don’t let perfection be the reason you don’t share the post you’ve worked hard to create, it's better to post something good today than something perfect next week.

3. Embrace your imperfections: Let's be honest - mistakes happen. Maybe you misspelled a word in your latest LinkedIn post or got your words muddles in a video? It happens! Instead of beating yourself up over these minor slip-ups, embrace them as opportunities for growth. But remember, imperfection humanises your brand and makes it more relatable to your audience. So go ahead, laugh at your mistakes, learn from them, and move on. Your followers will appreciate your authenticity and we all love a laugh don’t we?

4. Engage, engage, engage: Social media is meant to be social, we say it all the time, keep the social in social media guys! Don't forget to interact with your audience! Respond to comments, like and share user-generated content, and ask questions to encourage conversation. Authentic engagement is far more valuable than perfectly curated content. Plus, it shows your followers that there's a real person behind the screen - not just a polished facade.

And finally, the most important one in our opinion…

5. Have fun with it: You know we’re all about the fun here at Clewer Communications! Experiment with video content, get creative with your captions, and don't be afraid to inject some personality into your posts. After all, social media is supposed to be enjoyable, not stressful. So loosen up, let your hair down, and let your creativity run wild!

In our opinion, perfectionism has no place in the world of social media. Embrace your imperfections, stay true to yourself, and focus on delivering value to your audience. Remember, it's not about being perfect - it's about being authentic. Don’t let perfectionism stand in the way of your social media success!
